Is anyone watching Strictly this year?

Yes CC at least it is a few weeks of colour and cheer 🎼 💃🏼 I am expecting Annabelle Croft to do well (and as she only lost her husband in May and within a few weeks of diagnosis I am sure Wimbledon and throwing herself into SCD has and will be a great help to her) I also have fingers crossed for Angela Rippon who shares my birthday although she is 3 yrs older - which will make her 79yrs soon wow no way could I even attempt what she is about to!
Certainly she still has those legs we saw on The Morecambe and Wise show all those years ago, and I love Kai so 🤞🏼
What are your thoughts so far?

    CC YES! Love it.
I really enjoyed the show last night. It has such a feel good factor, which is so beneficial as the nights draw in, as the weather gets colder.
As someone who lives alone, I so love this as it so brightens up my Saturday Nights, which otherwise would be quitevnon-descript.
I have danced, be it many years ago now, so appreciate what I see.

As this is not a Strictly site, I will just say those who really caught my eye:-
    Ellie + Vito
    Amanda + Graziano
    Angela + Carlos.
All did so well and are so brave.

I was interested to see Craig dance after his hip replacements. I noticed that he didn't do as much as the other judges. I was sorry that Nadia hasn't got a partner this year, I'm also sad about Amy as I really like her.
I'm waiting to see how the pairings work out.

    A haunting in Venice.
We were disappointed. Wasn’t as good as the previous 2 with Kenneth B. It was also set at night in a big palazzo so was very dark for the whole film. I wouldn’t go and see it again. I wouldn’t really recommend it either which is a shame. I’d be interested I anyone else’s opinion of it if they go.

Watched strictly. Will record it so I can whizz out the ones I don’t want to watch.

Mr R will be having both his jabs today Flu /Covid 🤞🏼 the mix will go ok, and I have just had a text from my surgery offering appointments for same starting from next Tuesday (our friends Anniversary) so have booked for Wednesday lunchtime so thrilled not to have to travel to Basingstoke for the first time ever (a round trip of approx 22 miles plus all the parking etc). Although to be fair Mr R goddaughter was kind enough to take me once the location was transferred to the shopping mall but I always insisted on recompensing her plus the car park fee I was just so grateful but it did mean leaving Mr R too so all in all very thankful for this change.

Bit late coming in on SCD - but yes, we watched and will be watching every week
Commented to Mr A last night that we are back in Autumn/Winter mode now - Saturday nights means a lovely beef casserole with dumplings while watching Strictly!
As usual didn’t know half the contestants but will get to know them over the coming weeks.

And Hooray! As a dedicated fan, I am thrilled that Neighbours returns today having been axed by Channel 5 last year. We can now watch the new series on Amazon’s FreeVee channel which you can download as an app. No need to be a Prime member, it’s all free. Thank you Amazon for taking me back to Ramsay Street and the doings of Toady, Karl and Susan! 😃

I was meant to have 'flu jab today, to get a message this morning that appt. had been cancelled.
I did though find the NHS app. was now taking covid bookings. I could have had one done anytime, on any day this week, but decided not a good idea as I have a busy few days and full weekend coming up, and as always react in some way! All booked for Weds. next week.
I know some-where where I can get a flu vaccine on walk-in, but this can wait for a couple of weeks as covid is the more important one, in my mind.
Also did not want both together!

  7. Few posts again Lady R! Nor much happening I suppose.
I did make a short foray into Basingstoke yesterday, to try driving on my own, which took quite a bit of nerve on my part - specially round the huge roadworks that are going on at one of the roundabouts.
Managed to walk from car park as far as Boots but felt very wobbly walking round the shop so cut trip short and came home.
Spend three hours asleep in the afternoon, in consequence!

    1. Posting at the same time I guess AP. Driving into Basingstoke how very brave of you at anytime especially at this particular time for you and with big roadworks too. You did the right thing in coming back sooner rather than pushing it. Do hope you feel a little better today and thank you for popping in to join me ⭐️
The teams that were doing the jabs in the now closed Hub are the ones doing them in the Alton Practices. Great for us no more travelling 👏🏻

  8. Mr R had both jabs and all ok afterwards in general did have a headache for a short time in the evening and also a spell as though he had a runny cold. Never had any effects before but as so brief not really an issue. My turn next Wednesday 🤞🏼Not an exciting post but as no one has been around for some time again thought I would try to get the SCD glitter ball rolling 🤗
What windy weather we are having a wonder the silver birch tree on the green outside our window is still standing! However nothing as bad as the floods in the South West all that mud inside homes especially the 95yr old lady’s home, bless her everyone came to help her most heartwarming.

  9. Hello, not much to add but still here.
I am going for an hour's drive this afternoon to collect two small pots i made back in July, my daughter paid for a private lesson for me, (Mothers' Day). I can hardly remember what they looked like.
The potter was in a programme on the BBC called something like Take it to Market, she is from Scandanavia and does beautiful stuff. The lesson was really interesting, I've never used a wheel before, took more muscle than I expected.
If they look ok, I will put a photo up!

  10. Sarnia and others I do not track planes on my phone but on YouTube there is a chap called “Big Jet”
and he shows live comings and goings at Heathrow right now there are some hairy landings / attempts to do so but going up again. Full runway lights on and looks like thick fog but rain spew I guess ✈️

    ReplyDelete
  11. Some 'interesting' occurrences here too, Lady R. With only one runway and wind that keeps changing direction the controllers are hard put to work out which landing approach to use. Consequently aircraft are being sent from north to south and back again as the wind changed with each attempt at landing.
I would not like to be landing on Jersey in current conditions: the runway leads up to the cliff-edge, with all the attendant up-draughts, and I have to say that in autumn/winter it's one of the scariest airports I've had to use. Journeys to and from college as a student used to leave me shaking sometimes!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Several aborted landings here too, with aircraft going round in circles to come in for another attempt. Leaves complicated patterns all over the screen.

  13. MrNuts has been in Italy this week, flew to Milan on Monday, presentation yesterday morning then train to Rome, another presentation this morning then flying back to Heathrow this evening. Poor thin is going to be whacked by the time he gets home, he doesn’t like business travel at the best of times & normally manages to avoid it. At least next month’s trip to Amsterdam will probably be his last before he retires next year. Although if I am honest I rather enjoy having the bed to myself for a couple of nights! 🤭

I cannot sleep in a single bed, as always fall out whilst trying to get into my normal position, whilst half-asleep.

    1. Planes and boats are always a lifeline when you live on an island, AP: in prolonged bouts of rough weather you can be cut off from the mainland for weeks at a time. My sister went for nearly 3 .months without cooking facilities once, when her new calor gas stove was marooned in Portsmouth docks. I grew up to the sound of aircraft on the tarmac - it meant that mail and newspapers had arrived if nothing else.
I think Jersey can take air bus A320, but largest on Guernsey is an Embraer belonging to Aurigny. Alderney airport is tiny and is served by two Dorniers now that the beloved Trislanders are no more.

      Delete
    2. I must say we greatly enjoyed a trip to Jersey from Southampton via Aurigny a few years ago. Lovely to fly on a small aircraft with very personal and helpful service. And superb views nearing the islands.

I’ve had a pottering day putting things away for winter in the garden. Dug up my courgette plants and picked up 3 million ruddy beech nuts. Thought I ought to do that instead of cleaning other half of living room whilst it was dry. Just nicely come in to rest for a bit. Still a bit breathless after covid.

  21. Far too wet to do gardening after all the torrential rain. Garden is very boggy + squelchy.
Am busy, as catering for our big Family week-end. Tomorrow is endless preparations after having done the shopping as needed and early prep. today for Saturday
My problem is transporting it all to the home of Big Sis (25miles away), so to arrive intact.
I am in charge of puddings for 16 and am making two cheesecakes.
One has a base of Oreo biscuits with a lemon chescake filling with swirls of home-made bluebery curd in it.
The second is also a cheesecake, with an oatmeal biscuit base, but with a chocolate made from both milk + dark chocolate with fresh raspberries in it.
Third is a fresh fruit pavlova and a large fresh fruit salad.
I will need to drive carefully!
Sunday is a BBQ at ex bro in laws(big Sis's 1st husband) but father of the 3 nieces, and Grandad to the 5 youngsters.
    It should be fun
PS The blueberry/lemon curd, which I made today, tastes wonderful, but it took me over 2hours to make...but worth the effort.

  25. I meant to post this a couple of days ago but forgot. I have been watching thé visit of the King and Queen to France with interest.
I must say I thought Charles was very ungracious on arrival at Charles de Gaul airport. He made his way alone down the aircraft steps leaving poor Camilla to struggle down, well behind him, holding the rail with one hand and trying to clutch her hat, holding her bag at the same time with the other hand, in the strong breeze. She looked faintly ridiculous and undignified. Not once did he turn around to check that she was OK.
I think someone should send a collection of attractive hat pins to Camilla as she often has trouble with hats. I remember her clutching onto her feathery hat at their wedding and again at various times in this visit to France. I believe the late Queen always used a glamorous hat pin and never seemed to have to hold her hat on!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Interesting one Archerfile. I seem to remember one of the things commented on about poor Princess Diana was that she didn't follow protocol and walk several steps behind Prince Charles. Camilla always does on official occasions but I wonder how much longer she will be able to keep up with all the tours and engagements. To me she sometimes look as if she feels her age now. They are having to work at a time when most are retired and enjoying a bit of peace and quiet.

      Delete
    2. My thoughts are the same as yours Janice. Yes C & C are way younger than our late Queen but they are being thrown into all of this way later in life I feel worn out for them. So many say oh I’d change places in a heartbeat no household chores to do ,no money worries but also no choice in putting your feet up as and when instead Banquets and speeches not to mention Ping Pong 😂

Archerphile it was Camilla’s dress blowing up in the wind that was also a worry, good job she was not wearing stockings and suspenders 😱 I also could not understand the hat problem yesterday or her wedding day she must have a “dresser” who should be seeing to such things.

      Delete
    3. I remember reading that the late Queen always had little weights sewn into the hems of her dresses and coats to avoid the blowing up problem.
And I know it is protocol for the spouse to walk a few steps behind the sovereign but poor Camilla could really have done with a hand down those aircraft steps. Would it have been beyond protocol for a steward or stewardess to have helped her?

      Delete
    4. She is clearly in need of a gallant Captain!

      Delete
    5. Better loan Camilla yours then Sarnia 🤗
Now you point it our Archerphile I can recall the story regarding weights in the hems of the late Queens dresses etc to protect modesty. Someone made as if to help Kate from inspecting the interior of a helicopter during a visit of some kind very recently but suddenly realise it would not be protocol. I really worried that Camilla might take an undignified tumble down those plane steps what a disaster that would have been regarding both injury and dignity. A President Biden moment and as such one that I would not wish to witness 🫢😏

Just to say in case you ever had to feed someone who is gluten free I have been cooking for a friend who recently moved to Finland and is back here for a visit. I've turned into a grumpy old woman. We went into town this morning to get some bits and pieces. I was in Boots choosing some makeup and was accosted three times by three different people in the space of five minutes asking if I needed help. The third one told me that the beautician was available, to which I replied "do I look like I need the services of your beautician?" She was somewhat flummoxed by the reply and I felt bad afterwards as I know they are just doing their job. I was so frustrated at not being left alone to get on with my shopping.

  30. I’ve long held a loose fancy to try Archery.
This afternoon I had my official trial session.

Well it’s goodbye to that hope then.
My arthritic hands just about managed the Bow without pain, and I was able to locate the arrow in the correct manner.
But since my left arm has never been straight and my congenital double scoliosis means that I have always had to work against the double twist to remain upright, the combination of the two worked against me.
Either my strait ( ish ) left arm bent as the right arm pulling back the string ( ? ) held or the left arm remained straight but my back could not support the pull on the right.
I did manage to let go and fire several arrows and they did actually hit the practice target, nevertheless it was pretty obvious that it wasn’t going to be possible for me to continue beyond the taster session.
I am disappointed but unbroken !

There is a romantic appeal about archery, I have tried it on several occasions without much success, I think the combination of being left handed with a very dominant right eye means I struggle with my aim. Regardless of my lack of ability I have happy memories of a family lesson on my younger daughter’s 7th or 8th birthday at the Sherwood Forest Centerparc.

“Strictly” anyone? We throughly enjoyed it so uplifting to see such colour and happiness on a Saturday night 💃🏼 Les Dennis bless him appears to be this years plodder but will probably be popular with many viewers as is the normal form! As the eldest ever contestant at 79yrs next month Angela Rippon held her own - those legs ⭐️ loved Annabelle Croft so tiny and graceful and seemingly a lovely person. An overall high standard for week one and in the main very generous marks - even from Craig in most cases.

  38. What a morning today. I was up early, and it was only just getting light...
I had a taxi booked for 8.15am to go to a hosp. for an important eye clinic appt, and after 2 phone calls, it finally arrived 20mins late, so was late at hosp. I was a bit panicky by then, and couldn't find my house keys, to find I was sitting on them in the taxi 🤷‍♀️
To add, cleaning my distance glasses before leaving home, which were needed for the eye chart read, a lens fell out, but OK as my sunglasses have the same prescription lenses, so had to use them instead..
Straight to opticians after I got home, to find broken + no repair possible. I was lucky as although now a discontinued frame, there was one still tucked away (though a slightly different colour) so lenses put in while I waited for just £25. Happy Bunny, as the frames suit me and did not want the cost of new frames with new lenses, particularly as I am on the waiting list for a laser treatment, due to a very common problem after cataract surgery, affecting one eye only , causing hazy vision.
I was thankful for a lovely independant local optician and wonderful care at the hosp. eye clinic...feel lucky.

    2. My front terrace bed is looking lovely now.
The grasses are filling out and growing even taller interspersed with the purple and pink perennials and covered with bark mulch.
It has been a struggle, but I have managed to maintain a dispassionate attitude throughout several months of dispute.
My neighbour above, here for seventeen years and much of it the mover and shaker regarding the property, appears to have extreme difficulty in accepting new neighbours different outlook and ways of being.
After shouting at and insulting me, ( “ this used to be gracious living you know” ) telling me I had to consult her in my every decision and disputing ownership of the terrace, she constantly interrupted throughout our AGM and finished by resorting to a tearful exit from the room. All this over a period of several months.
The result being that the other neighbour here for only a few months before me, ( and the golden girl - who can do no wrong - and we are able to joke about this ) as well as the management team have been able to see the manipulative actions of this person for what they are.
There are more changes to be tackled due to the gardens especially being neglected as the former residents have aged, and become incapable of the maintenance required. But I have confidence that in due course all will be refreshed and looking lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hello Mrs. P, Thanks for asking. The most stressful bit is having to be unnaturally tidy, and now having to find a roofer due to my flat roof deciding to leak in heavy showers. Lots of interest in week one, none in week two, I am thinking of putting it up for auction. The propety I want is still on the market. I looked at a bridging loan but I think it is too risky - I can't afford to take financial risks. It's just that it has taken me so long to get to the position of selling, I now expect the world to jump at my convenience! I am keeping busy creosoting fences and reinforcing the boundary wall, so I feel useful and pro-active. Otherwise, it is all out of my hands and I try very hard not to make plans. It sounds as though you have had your hands full, glad you are pushing ahead with your own vision. I like to think of you living 'ungraciously' and sincerely hope I will do the same. (Like the poem about the woman in a purple hat).

You know that woman came from Stroud, and I must say the poem typifies Stroud.

Don’t make that financial mistake Mistral.
You admit it’s taken a long time to get to the point your at now.
But that is only stage one.
Your buyer will appear and if the flat you want is gone by then, another will become available and might even trump the one your looking at now.
Do your best to keep positive and I must say I do admire you for keeping busy while you wait.
Waiting, for me, led me into a state of nothingness, mentally wringing my hands.

  45. Do you have any useful hints on how to live ungraciously, Mrs P? I must admit that given my line of work it wouldn't be easy, but nevertheless the idea appeals to me greatly.

  46. Having an 18 month old grandson helps one a lot in living ungraciously. Joining in jumping and splashing in puddles comes to mind! So does reverting to the flowing brightly coloured skirts of my youth simply because he likes bright colours and likes hanging on to them as we walk. Re. clothing, in the christening picture his mum is wearing a traditional special occasion Filipino dress made of pineapple fibres, which I found interesting. It has a nice texture.

Went back to Ilfracombe a few years ago - now crammed with cars and people. But we still visited the lifeboat station on the harbour ( a family tradition) and had lunch in Damien Hurst’s cafe, also on the harbour. Interesting to see some of his artworks on the walls.

I am having a right palaver with my pharmacy + surgery about a precription, which has being ongoing for a week now.
My new normal eye drops are not available and hosp. eye clinic sent a letter to myself + surgery as to the required replacements drops.
I rang the surgery as my repeat drops could not be supplied. A week later, this still has not been sorted. A GP sent a new precription which was wrongly writren, so pharmacy won't supply the replacement drops.

To go to a different pharmacy means a 20 mile round trip out + £3 parking in the hope they’ll have some; phoning surgery to ask for different drug is too stressful to consider in light of recent communications with them. Whatever happens to our good old reliable NHS.?

    3. Thanks AP and Miriam - both recommending the same product.
Perhaps I will give them a try and see if they are any better for me.

My daughter was sitting having her coffee in her favourite place yesterday in Porthleven. She has taken me there when I visited. It’s a large modern warehouse structure, very airy and comfortable with the huge coffee grinding and sorting machines gleaming in the back with the cafe area at the front.
She was outside and saw from the corner of her eye a group of people leaving the other end of the warehouse, and realised it must be a tour of the business. As they passed her she looked up and saw that among the group was Princess Anne, the answer to the post earlier in the day that a helicopter had arrived on the playing field. The hardest working Royal had at least three commitments in Cornwall yesterday. Was she anywhere near you Janice ?

    4. Reminds me of a trip to S.America. I was in Ecuador and due to unrest/protests/army in tanks in streets etc. we were taken to a Rose growing place. Fascinating to see all normal UK roses being grown, to be shipped world wide including the UK. Suddenly another group arrived, HRH Princess Anne and entourage plus body guards...my group were suddenly hustled away...
It was a great experience though.

    5. As far as I know Mrs P her commitments were all down in the south of Cornwall. It is possible they sometimes have other private visits while in the area though. An elderly lady who walks her dog very early in the morning along the cliff path bumped into Prince Charles on one occasion. Another time my daughter saw him on the cliff looking across to Castle Island, probably assessing whether the proposed new bridge was viable and necessary. It is Duchy land but managed by English!! Heritage, and the additional higher up bridge was opposed by some locals on the grounds it would spoil the view and isolated atmosphere. English Heritage was determined to increase income by making access easier for those put off by the steep climb up the original ancient steps.

    6. He was completely by himself without any bodyguards which must mean he feels at home and safe here. Another time when he was here on a known visit a helicopter and a posh car arrived on the cliffs close to the Church and he went in to talk to the bell ringers who were having a practise ( I wasn't there at the time and missed the excitement). I doubt he will have the time or the freedom to do such things now.
Also when William and Harry were younger and still good friends they used to be seen at Polzeath beach where they stayed in one of the nearby rather grand large houses owned by a friend.
I heard that in the past the family have sometimes stayed at Caerhays Castle which has a beautiful Spring garden, but don't know if this still happens. They have their own Restormel House on the Duchy Estate and a house on the Isles of Scilly.

  74. So many frustrating NHS experiences for quite a few of you. We appear to be (for now🤞🏼) so fortunate. A week ago Tuesday Mr R very late at night was suddenly unwell and I saw a rash on the bottom of his “dangerous “ leg. However we chanced leaving things until the morning when I phoned his surgery, call answered quickly after all the usual blurb. A link sent for a photo to be sent for the Dr.This was about 9.40. At 11am the Dr rang resulting in a home visit at 1.15pm. All obs done plus bloods taken and antibiotics prescribed. Bloods went off to Basingstoke Hospital PM and I had a call from the same Dr at 8.15am the next morning to ask after MR R and checking AB had been collected as a small infection had shown in his results. If no improvement after 48hrs (which there was) phone again as would be hospital for intravenous AB. Most grateful and impressed.

Now my surgery as both my jabs due on his Dr’s visit day. Phoned and cancelled - ask what now? told to phone when ready which I did and now go on Friday 13th. Meanwhile on Tuesday I had a text from my surgery asking me to ring and make an appointment for a Hypertension check I did this and went this morning:-
Height, weight, waist measurement taken, bloods and I gave in the BP readings I had taken at home.
Now await results 🫢 especially cholesterol even though on a statin which may remain same low dose or be raised. Again so fortunate. Of course it may not always be so…..

    1. Mr Lady R obviously has an excellent GP !
      What a fortunate man.
Very pleased to hear such excellent treatment.

News on my statins when seeing GP last week were that the good cholesterol was good, but the bad C had reduced but not by much. So suggestion to increase the dose by double I agreed with, so long as I can reduce it again if better results in three months review.

    2. It appears to be The Practice in general Mrs P as we had not seen this particular young Dr at all and he has seen many 🫢 apparently he has been there 2 years though.
My stain is currently 5mg was yours the same and now 10mg 🤔 is it an age thing in the main do you think that it is harder to manually control? Open to all interested parties!

    3. I am on 20mg atorvastatin...it was suggested to increase to 40mg as though the overall cholesterol was normal, the triglycerides were only just over the normal level. I said no. I will wait for my next bloods and then decide.

    4. I was on 20 Miriam and have now increased to 40.
It was your opinion Miriam, expressed on here, that finally lead me to succumb to statins. You gave a powerful argument, and I listened.

    5. Mrs P. My triglycerides were only slightly up, the top level in normal range is 1.5 (whatever), mine was 1.53, so only just slightly elevated, which was why I decided to stay on the 20mg, and I was allowed the choice. This was done in March after winter months when eating pate, bacon, left over Xmas choclates, not forgetting suet dumplings!
If levels are raised next time, due in a months time, then will think again.

  75. OZ Niece + family are now in Bali after a very hectic trip to the UK.
However things didn't go smoothly due to a 3hr delay at Manchester airport. The connecting flight was missed, so spent 24hours in Doha with hotel accomodation, before arriving in a tropical paradise for R+R. All's well though...
No idea when I will see them again

    1. Lovely new memories made though Miriam.
Lovely place for R&R but all these airports and flights sound so very wearing don’t they?

  76. I would like some advice about the mushrooms growing in my lawn ( rough grass ) please.
My father was allergic to fungi so I didn’t encounter mushrooms ( along with garlic ) until my mid teens.
I’ve never really taken to them even though I know they are really healthy food. I find the texture very unpleasant but do like the taste so enjoy mushroom soup.
I am also extremely aware of the dangers of not knowing which are poisonous and which are not.
These in my garden are growing in size from around two inches to about four now, and look exactly like those found in the supermarket. They are white.
Should I pick them and try to cook them ?
    Are they safe ?
    How do I know ?
I can just about tolerate them if sliced very fine and fried. Butter or olive oil ?
    Help and advice please

    1. My advice would be to leave well alone MrsP

    2. My advice is don't touch at all. Have you read about the mushroom poisoning, resulting in deaths in Australia? It's interesting - as was it accidential as claimed, due to mushrooms bought, or something else..It will never been known.

      Delete
    3. That’s my advice too. We often have very mushroom-like fungi in our lawn which Mr A assures me will be safe, but why take chances. If you really love mushrooms and want to eat them they’re cheap enough in the supermarket, so don’t risk it!
I love raw (supermarket) mushrooms sliced in my daily lunchtime salad. Drizzled with vinaigrette they are delicious and still have the firm, not soggy texture you get after cooking.

    4. There is an agaricus xanthodermus mushroom that is very similar to edible mushrooms but although it won't kill you it is likely to give you severe stomach cramps etc. Surprisingly some people can eat them with no ill effects. Always, if foraging, cut the stem across and if it stains yellow then don't eat it. I picked and ate field mushrooms that my father had taught me were safe to eat and I loved them cooked with bacon, but later on I was caught out once by, I think, the a.x. one and had a severe stomach ache, and it must have sensitised me to the whole mushroom family because I can't eat them at all now which I regret. I would say Mrs P either go on a foraging course, or ask someone who really truly knows their fungi to have a look at yours before you think of picking and cooking them.

  77. Have just seen a news flash about Scotland. Further south it is warm and sunny, yet in Scotland people have had to be rescued by helicopter, as a result of a mudslide caused by torrential rain.
Now for Strictly tonight, but I am finding it difficult to get meal ready, due to early start and the England Rugby match.
Will join in with the Ireland/Scotland match after Strictly.

    4. I agree. Her wig suited her. But what on earth was he wearing. Could they not have put him in plain green leiderhoussen. What a sight.
Thought Bobby was amazing considering how he was in rehearsal.

    5. We had an unexpected Zoom call from the family in France at 8pm so missed the last few competitors and was too late to vote by the time we ended the call. So we never got to see Krishna news reader. How did he do?
We thought Angela Scanlon was amazing with the Charleston so I would have voted for her at least. I’ll catch up on iPlayer this morning.

    6. He was quite good doing the Charleston to” money, money, money” song from Caberet.
Angela scanlon was really good, so was Amanda Abingdon with the rumba.
Nikita doing the jive was so flat footed. Think she might go.

    7. Agree Krishna was really enjoyable and is obviously wanting to do well such a lovely gentleman. Angela’s Charleston was another level 👏🏻
I only realised last night that young Bobby is the son of Jade Goody but now I know I can see the likeness! Also like a young smoother Mick Jagger 🤭

    8. I know this is showing prejudice but I really didn’t like seeing Nikita (from Ukraine) dancing with Layton dressed up as a woman. Somehow I have no problems seeing two men dancing together, as men. In he last series it was done very well, athletic at times and moving at others. But when one is pretending to be a girl and they are dancing as a pretend heterosexual couple it disturbs me. Sorry if this offends anyone, just my feeling.

      Delete
    9. My take on this is that men and women move in a different way. When I see a man dance dressed as a man I expect him to move like a man. When the man is dressed like a woman I expect him to move like a woman so my brain was confused when watching that dance.

    10. I don’t watch - so have never commented, but intrigued by A P and CC posts above, it sounds to me that any problem you might have is about authenticity !
And I find your feelings quite understandable.

  78. I’ve not done much exploring of the region in the time I’ve lived here, but have recently started getting myself out.
Yesterday I went to Dulverton a very small town in the heart of Exmore and discovered that it has a large river flowing through, the Barle, and an arched medieval bridge. But as I drove into the Main Street to park, there to my right was a double freestanding stone staircase and at the top a very attractive metal canopy.
    I immediately recognised it.
A memory squirrelled away which I vaguely thought belonged to Bridport.
I immediately realised that i must have visited with my partner on a holiday in North Devon.
I love small towns, English or Welsh. Always something unique about each one.
Fish and chips sitting on a bench watching the river flowing in the dusk.
    The fish was good.
The chips the best I have EVER tasted.
