MiriamNovember 7, 2025 at 8:53 PM Can anyone explain how Esme can continue with the tenancy of the farm?. I don't understand this as surely her dad couldn't just pass it on to her, or could he!

BasiaNovember 8, 2025 at 10:42 AM Apparently it can be passed on depending on the tenancy agreement and here we have some of the dramatic licence. Esme's made her decision, but Ruth told her she can always change it. It looks like she's going to stay, so they'll have to make it work.

OldWomanInAShoeNovember 8, 2025 at 10:55 AM Esme did talk about selling the herd on to the next tenant. Perhaps there has to be some sort of grace period if the tenant farmer dies - you can't just uproot the crops and move the animals at the drop of a hat.
MiriamNovember 8, 2025 at 4:25 PM Thanks. I have no idea how a farm's tenancy works when someone does a "Mulligan"! I just thought that whoever owns the farm and has granted the tenancy to the Mulligan family, would have had to be informed of the change in circumstances. I wonder who the owner is?

maryellenNovember 8, 2025 at 5:40 PM The Government’s guidance on agricultural tenancies is very clear and helpful (so was Anrol’s earlier). It says “Every agricultural tenancy agreement is unique” which sounds as if it could allow the scriptwriters some scope on the procedural side of things. The agreement for Meadow Farm evidently gives succession rights to Farmer Mulliigan’s heirs.
Like Ruth and David, I wonder about Esme’s capability to run a farming business. I haven’t been all that impressed by her organisational powers so far and her approach to farming seems more sentimental than instinctive. She needs a business partner with farming experience - and soon!

He would need further guidance from his parents however.
Whether Ruth and David would welcome that, I don’t know, but although they’re too nice to say it out loud, they must be thinking that Esme’s experience of farming is likely to be.gained at their expense. Unless she finds a willing mentor.......
It has just occurred to me, Susan will have a contract with the Post Office. Resigning from the village shop is one thing, but surely she'd need to work out her notice as Postmistress. Or are there special arrangements for Borsetshire?
That leads me to wonder how she was able to just transfer the Post Office to the church. Can the Horizon IT systems be moved like that at the drop of a hat? At least she doesn't seem to have been affected by the problems with that system!
Ignore this. Just testing to see if my comments publish here. Google is playing up on the other site wanting me to sign in every time and seems to be deleting or not publishing my comments. Am hoping son can sort it later.
If Mulligan was already in the red, I don’t think Esme has any idea how to turn it around to sell on the animals trading stock and machinery to a new tenant. That’s all she can sell. There’s no goodwill. I said before she has to notify the landlord within one month of the death which I think is the end of this week
I have just been asked to login through Google and had to go through the whole performance with getting a code on my phone etc. Dont know why and hope this isn’t going to happen every time I want to leave a comment! After all that, cant remember what I was going to say! Apart from - sincerely hope George isn’t going to spend the £500 loan from Will on an expensive engagement ring for Amber. She’d love it but it could be used to start up the coffin business he was speculating about when in jail.
The same thing is happening with me Archerfile. Google (Chrome) started asking me to sign in before I can comment about 3 days ago, and it has repeatedly deleted a long comment I made on the other blog. It is very annoying.
Oh dear, this is not good news. The last time this happened we lost several contributors i remember, Soz being one of them, and it took a very long time before some were able to get back. I imagine that some never did ! I believe that I have a fail safe way of retrieving access, and I think it’s possible that LanJan has used it to regain entry. I’m willing to explain again if anyone wants to take a screen shot of my method to keep for the future.
If you didn't mind doing it again Mrs P it would be useful to have it before possibly getting locked out. I don't know how to take a screenshot but son will be up later and will know how. Son has been puzzled by the glitch too, and usually he sorts me out easily.
I agree Archerphile about the coffin business and there are schemes for ex offenders. George needs money to show Amber his love, because she doesn't appreciate his cooking skills, restaurants are better. They both live rent free, I don't think Amber contributes anything to the household expenses, and there's "pocket" money from Will.
Amber was very keen when George proposed in prison, she was looking at LL as the possible venue, there was a cancellation and Will was going to put down a deposit. It looks like the glamour has worn off - a boyfriend in jail how cool is that - unlike an ex offender.
And an ex-offender without a job, no money, nowhere of his own to live and no money to fund a swish wedding with all the trimmings. I have noticed a new name in the cast list for next week, so we might be going to find out a bit more about Little Miss Amber
I'm liking how Amber is changing as a character, alongside the new actor portraying her. I was convinced, obviously wrongly, that Amber would leave Ambridge after George's release. Who knows she still might! Now I actually want them to stay as a couple and in Ambridge How the tides are turning as to my previous thoughts.
Well my take on tonight’s episode is that Amber is perhaps the problem with her parents, rather than the parents being a problem with Amber. But we shall see !
I keep meaning to mention that I read very recently that Patrica Greene now lives in a care home and records her lines from there when required of her.
How wonderful that Patricia Greene is able at her age and living in a care home, to still be able to follow her professional life and continue to contribute to a lifelong position as Jill Archer.
I say ‘should have’ and ‘should’ve’ indiscriminately, just like I say ‘I’ve’ and ‘I have’. Or sometimes something somewhere in between. I’m afraid I wouldn’t meet Amber’s mother’s standards of gentility. Please advise!
As so many are predicting, will she be a caricature of either Hyacinth Bucket??My other thought is that she's very similar to Susan, which is why Amber still holds a grudge against her.
It crossed my mind that she might be an invalid - something to do with the way Bill said to Amber It’s been hard since you left, which seemed to imply more than his words.....
It seemed to me that Amber’s problem is with her mother, rather than her father. He seemed genuinely fond of her and concerned about her. It must be the mother who, endlessly critical, drove her away but how George is going to make up for that, I don’t know.
Perhaps he should start by looking at his own relationships with his Grandparents Susan + Neil along with others in the community. If he can try to build relationships between Amber + her family, then he can perhaps now see the way to help himself....
Kate is overbearing now, but she was also an absent mother. Phoebe was brought up by Hayley + Roy, then by Roy + lodger Kirsty. Why is Kate suddenly becoming the mother Pheobe never really had? Jenny was also a caring grandma to Pheobe.
I would also like to add the following. Roy was a constant loving father to Phoebe. Although the actor has sadly died, the character of Roy Tucker did not. He went to live in Eastern Europe with his new love. But he would not have abandoned all thought of his daughter, and I find it very odd that his interest in his daughter, her pregnancy - which will make him a grandfather - and her current welfare is never mentioned in any of the current storylines.
Roy would happily have abandoned Phoebe plus Hayley and daughter when he was in love with Elizabeth.. They’ll get over it, he said casually when Elizabeth asked him about his concern for his family It was she, not he, who broke it off, concerned for her own children. Then he crawled back to Hayley.
If anyone is a fan of Paul Copley(Leonard), as I have been for many years - he is starring alongside Sue Johnson in a play called “Big Winners” on Channel 5, Thursday, 9pm. Channel 5 are bringing back the old format of Play for Today which produced so many memorable plays. I shall enjoy *seeing* him act again after being a ‘voice’ in The Archers.

ReplyDeleteJanice - I need to put my iPad on charge.
ReplyDeleteOnce we reach the dark, 5 o’clock ish I will write my method.
I have now put my method of re entry to the blog on the other thread.
ReplyDeleteIs Amber already married? Something is not right that’s for sure!
ReplyDeleteHadn’t thought of that possibility, but certainly somethings sniffy is going on.
