AmbridgesMrsPJanuary 4, 2026 at 6:56 PM Re - joining this blog
I joined at the point ( I think) that Lady R and Lancashire Janet were having a jovial ding dong about LadyR being a titled Lady. ARCHERPHILE was joining in. Dublin Dolly always had a lot to say.
If anyone can remember that time, then please feel free to give me a nudge.

Lady RJanuary 4, 2026 at 10:52 PM I can remember 😱 I was appalled that LanJan thought I was a real Lady 🤣😂 and I explained at the time how I came to use it. Now of course AP can confirm my protestations as we met (all be it briefly) a few years ago at a National Trust property.
AmbridgesMrsPJanuary 4, 2026 at 11:18 PM But LADY R …… can you remember what year that was ?
I was trying earlier today SOZ to remember FoSo- father of son of - his name. I remember him very well, and that he lived in Bromley. Can’t remember what happened or why he left.

Lady RJanuary 5, 2026 at 12:15 AM Well I started using Lady R in 2014 in order to vote on Strictly Come Dancing I know that much I will delve deeper and return…….
MiriamJanuary 4, 2026 at 6:27 PM I've had a lot of snow showers on + off all day today, but now it's really dumping it down. It's a cold + a white world outside. ☃️

AnrolJanuary 5, 2026 at 10:25 AM I think FOSO said he was thinking of moving but also going to spend less time on blogs
So ANROL - you’ve been with us all these years but have only posted recently ? How nice that you have finally chosen to join in. You must know us all very well.
Bright sunshine here but no snow. Though I’ve seen pictures of it up on Dunkery Beacon over the NY period.
LADY R - I moved out of my flat in Putney in September 2014, stayed with my daughter through till the beginning of 2015 then moved to Stroud. I’m pretty sure this was the period that I started posting, but am unsure of exactly when, if still in London or after I had moved. My diaries of that period are still in a box somewhere.
I had the clever idea of looking at the old BBC blogs. You used to be able to click on your name and see all your comments. But they're in the process of digitising all the old blogs and currently a lot of the comments are unavailable (they're due to return, apparently). So I couldn't find when I started. A short time down the rabbit hole hunting for restored blogs but then I realised I probably ought to get on with all the jobs that actually needed doing!
I am in the middle of tidying out what I call ‘my room” . Mr LJ was really tidy and I am not. When I first came down( it would have been our silver wedding Anniverary today) he said that the spare bedroom could be mine and he would not go into it unless invited. I may find something in there . I have all my old diaries. When I have time I will check to see if I can find out when I joined. I didn’t get an IPad until I think 2012 so it must have been after that. I know ,Mrs P that at one point we thought we could meet up in Putney . I particularly like the Wetherspoon’s overlooking the Thames by the bridge at ge bottom of the high street. I used to go quite often to Putney which I really liked
Yes I remember LJ our plan to meet up at Weatherspoons on the embankment at Putney. But I’m pretty sure that was after I had left London, but still had the facility to stay at my daughters in Earlsfield. That has not been possible for many years now as the house is let.
I was indeed, glad you enjoyed it. Perhaps when The Return to the Desert Island is complete I should rerun it for the benefit of folks who joined later.
Lanjan - as said I joined in June 2015 and you were there as Janet H wanting to change to Lancashire Janet which someone told you how to do, so you must have been quite new at the time.
I just googled BBC and my blog name. I got 4 hits, the earliest being Oct 2016. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thearchers/entries/f62a8472-c9d7-4a57-b7c9-5ec0fb9fe8bd LanJan, KPNuts, LadyR, Archerphile, MaryEllen, you were all there. It wasn't my first post though. Perhaps I'll wait a while and try again after more pages have been digitised. Has anyone else tried this method? What did you find?
I tried OwiaS method. MrsP was interpreted as something to do with the licence fee. Several times.
I then tried with ARCHERPHILE - and got through to February 2016. I could not find any posts from me, but did find references from others about posts from MrsP - several about a new chip shop opening. I then scrolled back and found posts that I had no memory of writing, but were obviously the posts referred to by others. No MrsP but a number - D1741254663795 - perhaps I did not give myself a name at that point ? But then I must have done, since others referred to me as MrsP ! If anyone gets a look at posts prior to February 2016 with MrsP or the number above showing that I was contributing then, please do let me know.

Lots of long-forgotten names there. No sign of me yet, although I think I posted infrequently at first, so perhaps I'm only on the unrestored blogs.
Thank you OwiaS - so I was posting in Jan 16, think I must have been reading for some months before posting, but it would seem after I moved from London. Hey ! That’s ten years.
MiriamJanuary 7, 2026 at 5:36 PM I had wonderful service in S/bury's today. I picked up 3 bottles of low alcohol rose, on offer but realised that the full price was showing on my scanner. On going to pay, there was the trainee manager overseeing things, who I had help from before. I called him over - long story short - he got the ticket from the shelf, changed the price and I was happy. On getting home + looking at my receipt, he'd actually also cancelled one bottle, so I have a free bottle as I only actually paid for two at the reduced price. What a lovely gesture.

MiriamJanuary 7, 2026 at 5:39 PM Wrong page! Sorry but I don't know how to transfer it to Life Outside Ambridge 🙀
How interesting, all these memories about old blogs. I too remember Dublin Dolly with whom I think I had a few spats! And we had several male contributors such as FOSO and, I think, Froggy Frogster? And Gary of course who took over leading us after the BBC blog broke down I started with the name of K2tog (or something similar) because of my obsession with knitting but later changed to Archerphile (a lover of the Archers). I’ll try and do a bit of research.
Different point - love your snowy photo KP. Do you know if the bungalow opposite is up for sale? It looks like my perfect dream of where I’d like to live!
Thanks both. It was a wild night, but no trees, except for the odd branch, are down here and the large shed roof is still intact - always a worry in high winds as if one roofing sheet goes it tends to take others with it. I was surprised none of the trees were down, but it may have been because of the wind direction, coming from the northwest instead of the usual southwesterly. Some things blown around the garden and the door hanging off my son's old workshed but he will easily fix that. Replied to you Mrs P.
I hope the storm hasn’t caused too much disruption Janice. The red warning sign for Cornwall looked ominous. In the East Midlands we expected snow but it’s turned into rain and the drinking troughs haven’t frozen over.
I didn’t get it even in five last night. I had all the letters but kept choosing the wrong first letter. Never mind, I usually do it in three or less most nights. Well done to all others.
Here in Minehead we were clearly in between the two surges and appear to be untouched by the storm. Light rain through the night and it seems damp outside, (yet more wet paw marks on my sheets courtesy of Puss) but it’s brightening up now and the sun seems to want to push through the overcast sky. My daughter down on the Lizard is safe apart from lack of power and a tree down across the estate drive, but the farm tractor will soon deal with that I imagine.
I have just watched today’s Bargain Hunt with Lilian and Justin Elliot versus Tracy and Jazzer. Just as well they don’t earn their living peddling antiques!

I woke up to some great news this morning.
ReplyDeleteA couple of months or so ago, my niece in OZ went into work to find she no had a job. The firm were closing down with immediate effect and there would be no redundancy. She and hubbie had already booked + paid for (luckily) a trip to Tonga to meet up with friends. It is through this couple that they met and cupid struck!!
Finances became a problem as to the mortgage, as she was the main earner.
As such, she managed to get a temporary Christmas job in a shop and was doing Uber driving to try + make ends meet.
They left on their trip yesterday, and just as they were about to leave she got the date for her postponed total thyroidectomy. This is in a completely different hospital, which is a much larger and a university one, but much further away.
They stopped in Fiji overnight, sounds glam but was the best + cheapest way to do their journey. On switching her 'phone back on, there was an e-mail offering her a job, one which she really wanted.
As said, it was such wonderful news to wake up to. No matter how far away they are, they are family still matter so much.
To add her op. is on Feb. 9th, just 10days after they return home.
