I think Chris’s hesitation about Alice and Rex’s fledgling affair could be more to do with his relationship with Martha than his relationship with Alice. How might it change when she gets another Daddy figure in her life? Will she play new Daddy off against old Daddy, for instance?

She might well do so ME, as some children do, but if so that will have to be managed, along with all the other consequences that happen as a result of a marital separation.

  2. So far Chris and Alice are doing pretty well at co parenting.

    maryellenMarch 10, 2026 at 2:09 PM
True, Mrs P, although its success has depended a lot on Chris’s unflagging availability when Alice was doing her own thing, plus having Susan and Neil as backup. Susan’s role in Martha’s very early development shouldn’t be forgotten as she did much of her parenting.

Martha was fine being with Chris + Carly when they were together. I think she'll be fine with Rex being in Alice's life.
Chris will always be her Daddy, whoever Alice + Chris end up with. The reason being that they co-parent and always will, and this would only change if one of them moves away.
Rosie play's Toby against Pip, but that's a completely different set-up.

Now we know what the passing car was for. George is only worried about his image and it brings on his aggressive side.
Josh doesn't want a party nor attention drawn to himself, what for, to celebrate his departure?
I just heard of micro-dramas - just a few minutes - sounds like cliff hangers from the Archers, it seems that our attention span has narrowed.

I like Reg It would be good if he moved to Ambridge.
Will we find out who turned George in? I predict Lillian or Tracy. They’ve both got mean streaks!

Brian or Ruairi because they hold it against George for having something on them.
The others might think that George has already got what he deserved.

I’m simply delighted to hear of an antisocial activity that has bothered me throughout my life, being brought to the attention of the public by such a programme as TA.
Men who consider it perfectly reasonable to relieve their bladders whenever and wherever they may be has always disgusted me.
I shall be interested to see how this plays out.

    1. I agree MrsP, did they choose George, to test him to the limit?
My sister lives in a street full of late night bars and they had to tell off some women who entered their courtyard for the same reason, here in France, I guess men don't look for shelter.

    2. There have been times during a long moorland walk with only bracken for cover when I and my fellow walkers have unknowingly broken the law by relieving ourselves not far from the footpath we were following. We tried to avoid potential embarrassment by stationing ourselves near the footpath to warn any approaching hikers and staring in the opposite direction to the one taken by the one of us in extremis, or just being precautionary. I wonder now if the law would have considered us guilty.

      Delete
    3. Maryellen - you will not have been alone in needing to relieve yourself on a long hike. Others will have done the same out of necessity, including me.

It is the antisocial activity of urination in an urban situation, usually but not always by men, that is under discussion.
It’s possible that by introducing the subject on TA that it might become a national conversation. I do hope so.

  5. I followed a man + Labrador at a service station, assuming he was going on the dog walk. Actually he was thinking of himself and not the dog, and we got mutually embarrassed!

  6. I hadn’t heard of these “sobriety tags” before, apparently they were introduced back in 2020. It seems a reasonable option, George’s anger issues certainly aren’t under control yet & he is unpleasant when drunk. My opinion of Amber has steadily improved recently, pointing out that she’s not drinking & suggesting he’s not drinking to support her was really smart.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, but George should not be hiding behind Amber.
If/when he owns up the family will be alerted to two things: that urinating in public is an offence and that someone still has it in for him.
Btw - I met a man who in sympathy with his pregnant wife allowed himself to grow too!

  7. Rex was with Eddie + George when "wee-gate" happened. Has he taken the idea from Chris, who might well have told him about reporting the NYE drunken behaviour. It all links to their joint feelings for Alice.

    1. Yes, but Chris did it before George was attacked, whoever did it now feels that George deserves more, is Rex so vindictive and malicious?

    2. It was just a thought and just a way of supporting Alice as Rex is with her + so no different to Chris.

  8. I thought it would have been whoever was in the car that beeped him who reported him. The headlights would have illuminated him so the driver would know who it was. I wonder if George in his drunk state would have registered the make of the car.

  9. George didn’t’t sound drunk to me, just suffering from the diuretic effects of a quantity of Grundy cider, He’s never been a problem drinker. New Year’s Eve was due to exceptional circumstances made worse by Chris Carter. My theory is that Reg, bless him, homed in on the presence of alcohol on. these two occasions, in order to adopt the least punitive approach to George’s transgression.

I like Miriam’s theory that the driver only honked as a warning to get out of the way but wouldn’t that leave only Will and Rex as witnesses and therefore possible complainants?

    1. Sorry, should be Eddie not Will. In last sentenc.

    2. Do the scriptwriters have to portray Brian as a meddling old fool? I don’t like him, but would prefer not to see him in quite such a bad light.

      Delete
    3. ME So agree. I can't work out why Brian is being portrayed in this way. It's just not realistic nor believable. He's shunted Ruairi off to Berrow Farm with the pigs, so how is this adding to his plans..
For once I've no ideas! 🤣

Chris banging on the metal and Rex going to see him: both as stupid as.
Since when Jakob asks anybody's advice, especially from Chris, because he lets him his cottage?
    Yes, ask KATE.

  12. Chris is definitely not happy with Alice now being with Rex. I don't think that it's anything to do with them as partners/lovers, just more to do with Martha and his thoughts that he might be left out of her life.
This won't happen surely, or will it?
He didn't seem that bothered when Alice was with Harry, nor when he was with Carly.
However, Hannah when they got together very briefly, realised that Martha would always come first in his life and probably always will.

  13. ‼️ SPOILER ALERT‼️
No cast list for TA listed anywhere on Sounds next week, however Carol was mentioned this week and her daughter Anna next week plus Alan visits Carol so it looks as though….. Jill I’m sure will also be written out in the near future both of these characters /actors are in their very late 80’s / 90’s now so understandable that they wish to be officially retired.

    ⭐️NORMAL POST NOW!!⭐️
I am more drawn to Amber now than when she first arrived in Ambridge and when George is “nice George” they make a lovely couple but I guess that can’t last George will go back to prison and Brad will be on hand for Amber and baby??? Brian - well what is this SL all about?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I hope that Rex and Alice maintain friendship with Chris and have a nice relationship with each other.
But I also yearn for the day when both Chris and Alice are prepared to admit to themselves and to each other, that they belong together with Martha.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, I'd like that too, but they have to pass a few hurdles first.
One obvious scenario is that Martha falls ill, but I hope they are more inventive.

  15. I think drama queen Alice is basically bored by Chris and it will be the same with Rex.

  16. Alice seems to be sorted now. She has Rex to go riding with, Chris to sort out the horses hooves and her sister's partner to treat them when they're sick.

  19. I mean, Ruairi knows George knows Brian "did it", so what are they both playing at.
Or does George think Ruairi doesn't know Brian "did it", but then Ruairi knows that he did it.
Stupid or what? A baby scan photo is very intimate, I didn't like the way it played out.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. As I see/hear it. Brian confessed to George (which is still recorded), so as far as George is concerned it's just between the two of them.
There's no reason for him to have any problem with Ruairi and was just pleased to share his news about the baby.

      Delete
    2. BASIA ….. I agree that a baby scan image ought to be intimate but from my limited experience I’ve seen numerous occasions where a scan is passed around amongst, presumably, friends.
I think TA is, once again, reflecting the need to introduce a younger audience to listening, and I think that what we heard this evening is normal for a younger generation.

And I don’t think Ruari is ‘ playing ‘ at anything.
He is clearly very confused about his behaviour, and now discovering that Amber is pregnant, and was so when he bottled George, is further mortified by what he did.
It is obviously only a matter of time before he caves in and confesses.
And I wouldn’t mind guessing that when he does so, it is to Alice.

      Delete
    3. Yes, I think Ruairi may confess to Alice.
Ah, yes, when George told Ruairi Amber was 14 weeks pregnant, he realised he might have deprived George's baby of father. OK, so it was his way of apologising to George for what he did to him, without disclosure.
Yes, I know people are clumsy at expressing their emotions.
Still, I see no parallel with Ruairi's mother dying.
I guess they put all three of them together, to make it awkward.

      Delete
    4. I do see a parallel twixt George and Ruari in their situations.
Ruari in his early years lived in Ireland with his mother and grandmother, and rarely if ever saw his father. After his mother’s death he lived with his father, so throughout his life he has lived with only one true parent.
The realisation of Amber being pregnant when Ruari assaulted George caused Ruari to reflect on his own situation in regard to the possibility of George’s baby being born without a father who was alive.
Equally George immediately became aware of Ruaris situation when making a remark and apologised.

Personally I felt that the gentle conversation between the two was sensitive and illustrated the empathy that some young people are able to display today.
I believe that the present generation are the result of the kindness to one another shown and taught in primary schools when they were very young, that I became aware of when taking and meeting my G children to school in their early years. I was impressed at the time and am pleased to be able to sometimes see the results today.

  20. I didn't like the way George kept asking Ruairi if he'd had counselling. I know of a few people who should be 'traumatised' by today's standards but have managed to stay 'normal'.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. And probably several more who have learnt to bury their hurt and confusion because painful events were not to be talked about.
Far healthier to acknowledge the pain and sense of dislocation, and be gently supported to rebuild a new normal. And if that involves working with someone trained to help people process grief or trauma, then go for it! Opening up past wounds can be so hard, and can take so much pain. But so does leaving them untreated and festering - especially when they're so well bandaged up that to the rest of the world you are 'absolutely fine'.

    2. Well spoken OwiaS. Thank you from one who has had both psychotherapy and counselling in her life, and been well served by both disciplines.

    2. No. It was Katie Hims who often writes for TA. She's done a lot of radio dramas. The ones I remember most are:-
      The Black-eyed Girls
      24, Kildare Road
plus she did a lot of the episodes in Home Front.

  25. Is Brian going to stop meddling and start supporting now?

    ReplyDelete
  26. So if Ruairi confesses to the police,, George’s recording will be largely redundant, but Brian is still open to the charge of perverting the course of justice, unless Ruairi can cover up the fact that he was there, and an accomplice to the crime. It’s still a tangled web.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It occurs to me that this is the forerunner to Brian’s exit.
However it may occur, a heart attack as he is arrested perhaps, or some other emergency.
Could take even more weeks of course.

    ReplyDelete
  28. MrsP - Yes it most probably is, Brian wants to join Shula at home.
Ruairi hit George in revenge for provoking Brian who felt unwell as a result.
Now Brian is blackmailing Ruairi that if he goes to the police it will 'kill him'.
So if Ruairi goes down Brian will follow.

    1. Charles Collingwood has repeatedly said he doesn’t want to retire & I wouldn’t have thought they would write out an elderly character who wanted to stay when there are so many older characters who may need writing out for whatever reason. Also I would hate to lose Brian, always one of my favourites.

      Delete
    2. My thinking is that Brian is heading for a health issue such as a severe angina attack, heart attack or a small stroke.
This won't kill him off, but just enough for him to realise he's not Infallible.
I just don't think he's doing what he should be, as to diet + life-style. I know I've said this before and there was a example of this recently when he was chomping away on roast ham, with English mustard on white sliced bread sandwiches, which would be high in salt, so perhaps not ideal.

  29. TA sort of.
I listened to the first omnibus of TA from 2007 today, and the parallels were amazing. It started on NYE with Helen drunk at the wheel, knocking Mike over and Tom taking the blame. The repercussions of who was blaming who, Helen getting stressed but keeping quiet although Tom told Brenda, plus the relationship with Mike + Tom/Brenda. It was a good listen
PS Chris also mentioned about splitting up with Carly and Jennifer was making soup!!

    1. I listen to R4ex a lot with dramas etc.from years gone by and have had a thought. Why don't they repeat TA either omnibus editions once a week, or daily episodes each day, from say 1990 or 2000 onwards..

Yes Miriam……it’s always puzzled me as to why TA is not available long term as other programmes are.

    3. I wonder if George was recording that conversation with Brian.

    4. I was about to say……….. I hope George had the foresight to press that record button on his phone again.

I’ve always been prepared to give Brian Aldridge the benefit of doubt over his dodgy attitude to life V his wit, but I’m fast changing that attitude.
To use my mother’s expression….. you worm !

      Delete
    5. On the first occasion it was George who went to challenge Brian, so he was prepared, this time he was taken by surprise, but maybe he was recording because he wanted the amount, I just hope he doesn't fall for it.

      Delete
  30. It seems that Ruairi is now Brian's sole focus in life, and will do anything + everything to protect him. He recently meddled with daughters Alice + Kate to make sure they are settled in their lives, as well as saying that Debbie has abandoned her family for her life in Hungary, whilst calling Adam, a 2nd class son at the sane time.
Brian's behavior is now making sense as it's all about Ruairi and will protect him in any way.
This is my interpretation as to my listening of TA.

    3. I think you might be right Miriam and if he is trying to visit all the sick and elderly as vicars used to do before they had so many churches to look after it would not only be exhausting but dispiriting too. And if the Archers scriptwriters are deliberately drawing attention to this I applaud them.

    4. Good thinking, Miriam. Google’s AI Assistant says Alan became vicar of Ambridge on 1 August 2003 and is likely to be in his 60s or older now. Usha was born in 1962, so either or both could be considering retirement. Their actors were born in 1948 (Souad) and 1952 (John). Their possible plans to move on may have prompted the storyline - if such it is! I like to think of them riding off into the Borsetshire sunset on Alan’s motorbike.......

    2. A very satisfying episode all round. Even I am coming to like the new George and wish him well for the future.
Less than satisfied with having to go through a whole Google signing in rigmarole to be able to post again!

    5. I haven't been able to change my picture for ages, which is why mine is still a hibiscus flower on a large shrub, which died +was removed, over 2 years ago. At least it's a reminder of that wonderful plant I once had.

      Magnificent animals.

  41. I was surprised Brian was so against George’s plan to get into farming & that he’d put a lot of thought into what he wanted to do. Thought he should have approved & given him a bit of encouragement. Agree Mrs A - nasty, nasty man Brian

    1. I think Brian knows or fears that Ruairi doesn’t have a true instinct for farming, whereas George does. It’s what’s gnawing at Brian, as well as his son’’s flakiness on and after New Year’s Eve.

      Delete
    2. I was taken aback by Brian’s attitude. I don’t think he really cares how George spends the money. He could easily have said he didn’t think George’s idea was sound and left it at that.

      Delete
  42. I agree with Miriam, that this conversation should not have taken place at all.
I didn't understand it at first, but I think Maryellen is right, Brian sees competition in George, having his eye maybe on Home Farm in the future.
But he also warned him not to come back for more.
But Brian sees himself as a benefactor! Refusing unsound investment.
That's what got to me last night - it's all wrong, the premise, the footing, the lot!
Stay away George - you still have to testify in court.

  43. As have just posted elsewhere - Esme has to put 10% of Meadow Farm (as a clause in her tenancy), to be ecogical. Will the sheep George wants to buy + graze at Meadow Farm, cover this?
I've no idea but just seems a logical solution, which might help Esme plus George + their future aspirations for the Farm

  44. Oh well, will it all start to unravel now.
A young girl I know once said: grown ups are just like children, they just have money.
At least Tony and Helen have been reconciled, with a bit of sadness.
From the start Tracy has not been thrilled by having Helen as neighbour.

    1. I'm surprised that Tony backed down so easily.
But then he did say not that long ago, that if it was possible, he'd give Helen the farmhouse now, to save her having to buy a house.

  45. I was just waiting to hear Brian’s words this evening.
IMO he never was going to move into his old home, with or without Miranda.
And I think this evening was the first time that we have ever heard words of romance or love in the strange - to my ears - relationship that’s been going on between Miranda and Brian for however long. I heard the companionship but never a loving or a physical relationship.
Was it all simply in the SWs heads ?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I've never thought of them being in a true loving relationship. Miranda often stayed with Brian, I can't call it lived with, for a few weeks at a time and then returning home I don't recall Brian ever doing the same at Miranda's.
What surprised me the most, which perhaps I just hadn't picked up on, was that Miranda appears to have only bought Home Farm for Brian to share with her.

    2. ...and not as her own home.

    3. I remember Brian and Miranda tentatively declaring their love for each other in the OrAngery, rather unconvincing I thought at the time, but I put that down to the setting - I don’t imagine the Orangery as a place for passion! - and Miranda’s acting style which often sounds chilly and distant to me.

    4. Yes, I remember those declarations Maryellen, but they sounded as just words.
Home Farm purchase sounded odd from the start, but I think it will lead to things unravelling.
If Brian can' move there for now, and if he can't tell Miranda when and why, then it's not a good relationship.

  46. Helen’s purchase will fall through and she will live at Home Farm with the boys until Miranda and Brian are ready to commit to doing so together 🤔🤣🤔 🤣

Mike Tucker was the after dinner speaker, his appearance does not match his voice, and there was a recording of Sunny Ormondes podcast “ One stiletto in the grave “ with Eddy & Jazzer, as well as a a video interview with Jeremy Howe and a talk from Keri Davis, no spoilers though!

  48. Somebody should ask Oliver what he thinks, rather than making up his mind for him.

Now, what would Brian say to Miranda: Ruairi smashed a bottle on George's head - he thinks it was me and I said I'd invest in his drone business but we fell out because he wants to buy sheep.
Both Ruairi and I are perverting the course of justice therefore we can't move in with you, so that you are not involved.

    1. Good script BASIA !

Tonight’s episode was more like a Friday cliff hanger than a sober Sunday evening such as we are used to hearing.

And ……….. according to the legal representative on this weeks Archers Podcast, George too, could be had up for perverting the course of justice for not taking his recording of Brian’s ‘ confession’ immediately to the police.

    2. MrsP - of course, both of them conniving together when there's a trial to come and George has to testify. I already told him to stay away.
I could not understand the exchange of numbers, as if it were a legitimate compensation.
They are all partners in crime.
The interesting question is how it will unravel. Miranda knows something's not right.
Will she confront Ruairi? He had nearly owned up to her.
George has told no one, will he be disappointed when his plans fall apart?
He's made a new life for himself, but his old instincts are still in place.

  49. A few thoughts only:-
    a) Where is Dane at GG who seemed so keen to integrate Ambridge events at one time, well if they suit. But does the cricket fit in?
    b) Miranda saying that there seems no trust between her + Brian.
    c) Then there was Brian saying beligerently to Miranda, that Ruairi doesn't concern her.
No idea what will happen next but am I interested - not that sure any longer.
No doubt I'll plod on as otherwise I'll end end up in rehab. with Archers Withdrawl Syndrome.

  50. I’m finding it very difficult adapting to the new voice for Carol Tregorran still expecting to hear Eleanor Bron’s velvet tones.
But then the original Carols voice is still in my head, even after all these decades.

  52. How dare Helen arrange the sale and auction of the Anguses without Tony knowing anything about this.
How I hope she loses her latest big new cheese contract. For once, I am being vindictive, just for a daughter treating her Dad like that, without any chat or prior consultation.

    2. I don’t feel as angry as you Miriam, but I do agree that it is an outrageous move on Helens part. She really ought to be at least a little bit sensitive to her father’s feelings.
But then she is a selfish and insensitive person all round isn’t she.
And she gets away with it by both her mother and her brother being complicit by never challenging her behaviour.

  53. Dear me Pat how long have you been married to Tony!! As the song goes “I can see trouble ahead”
Carol back in focus after all these years why so? Let’s all move to Ambridge and be up and running into our 90’s as Peggy was and Jill still is (apparently) and now Carol also in her 90’s although I’m guessing this SL is going to be intended for (us) listeners of a certain age not to be resistant to any help that may be required.

    1. Carol also warned Pip not to be complacent about Stella - she is suddenly very knowledgeable about her professional and personal life. She only gets second hand news from Jill, nothing in our hearing.

    2. I still think it's not just about Carol wirh her being senior, but about where she lives.
This is Glebe Cottage, destined for Josh in David + Ruth's future inheritance plan, which was part of the reason Josh has gone off in a huff.
Now if anything happens to Carol in the near future, what will become of Glebe Cottage and who will decide what becomes of it.

    3. I agree Miriam, as soon as Josh was allocated Glebe Cottage, Carol came back, first at the engagement party, where she was silent and then conveniently on mother's day and very vocal.
